Slievemore GP are now offering Covid-19 IgG Antibody Blood Testing using a local private laboratory.

This blood test is in popular demand but has several shortcomings:

  • The Covid-19 blood test only indicates if a person has been exposed to the virus. It is most reliably done 6 weeks after the patient becomes unwell and is thus not used while the person is unwell. A different test (Swab PCR) is used while a patient is actively unwell with Covid-19 symptoms.
  • Although the Covid-19 blood test will indicate if a person has antibodies to Covid-19, it will NOT indicate whether a patient is immune to the virus or can pass the virus on to other people. It only confirms if a person has been exposed to Covid-19.
